About Us

Founded in 2001, Monster Mutt was the first doggie daycare in Brooklyn, and we continue to provide the best possible care for your dog. We believe that puppy play is the best exercise and our indoor doggie playground provides plenty of space for the animals to socialize, exercise and play. Your pup will come home happy and exhausted from each Monster Mutt visit.

We offer a variety of services, including overnight and long-term boarding, full and half days of doggie daycare, training classes, baths, and a full-service boutique. We know pet parents want the best for their animals, and we do too. That’s why we “interview” our doggie applicants to ensure they’re a fit for our existing pack and all pups enjoy their stay. Interested in joining the pack? Dogs and humans are always welcome at our Cobble Hill home.

WHY MONSTER MUTT?

We know our mutts and their humans have a choice when it comes to selecting their boarding and daycare facilities. The most affordable local option, we go above and beyond in the following ways:

We’re experienced. The first doggie daycare facility in Brooklyn, we know the neighborhood. Our owner is local, experienced working with animals for two decades, and still with the business. We're deeply involved in the community and we’ve put our collective years of experience to use – creating an exceptional experience for our mutts and helping grow the Cobble Hill dog community through programming such as adoption events.

Safety is our greatest concern. We keep our pack to a manageable size and all dogs pass a temperament assessment to ensure a safe and happy experience for the pups. And although we hope to never need it, we are affiliated with an excellent local veterinary hospital. The hospital is open 24/7/365 so medical attention is always available to our furry guests.

We love your dogs. Truly. We adore them, play with them and take selfies with them. We call our facility a puppy playground and let the dogs play and interact with one another naturally. We love people too and price our offerings and packages simply. We won’t up-charge for things like administering medication, feeding a puppy lunch or ensuring they get a nap.

FAQS

Do I need a reservation?
Once approved as a Monster Mutt, you’re welcome to bring your dog to daycare whenever you'd like– no reservation needed. For overnight boarding your dog, you’ll need to make a reservation. If your pup is new to the Mutt you’ll need to request a temperament assessment, where we meet the dog and ensure that he’ll be happy at here.

Do you separate large and small dogs?
We have three separate areas in our indoor playground, and separate all the dogs into groups. Generally we use size as a guideline, but we also occasionally let big dogs into the small dog area, or vice versa. We base this on which area is best suited to the dog’s personality and play style.

How many times a day are the dogs walked/Do you have outdoor space?
Monster Mutt Doggie Daycare is an all-indoor doggie playground. The dogs treat the facility like it is an indoor dog park. However we are very on top of keeping the place spotless and the facility is very clean and sanitary… we spot clean as needed and hose down everything with veterinary grade disinfectant every night. Generally this does not affect their housebreaking. We do offer midday walks for those who want it.

What else should I know?
We require that all dogs be up to date on certain vaccinations (rabies, DHLP, bordetella and canine influenza) and be spayed or neutered by six months. We can go over the specifics during the introductory session. This of course helps ensure the safety of all Monster Mutts.

How do I know my dog will be safe?
All of the dogs here for overnight boarding and doggie daycare are carefully pre-screened by our experienced professionals. The dogs are then separated into appropriate playgroups based on both size and temperament. Lastly, the pups are vigilantly supervised by loving, caring, experienced dog handlers.

My dog needs medication. Can you administer it and is there an additional charge for that?
We are happy to administer medication for no additional fee.

What happens if my dog gets injured or falls ill?
This very rarely happens but, in the event that it does, you will be immediately notified and we will seek out appropriate veterinary care if necessary. If there is a local concern or if we identify that a dog has a contagious disease, we alert all our pet parents.

What should I bring when I board my dog?
Please bring enough of your dog’s food – enough to last his stay, plus one extra day. We provide a full selection of bedding, bowls, toys, treats, etc. If you feel that there is something you’d like to bring from home during his dog boarding stay to make your pup more comfortable you are welcome to bring it. However, it is a little bit like summer camp here so things can be lost or damaged. So don’t bring your dog’s very expensive bed, or favorite, irreplaceable toy, etc.

Is the facility completely cage-free?
The doggie daycare is cage-free during the day and the dogs are crated for overnight boarding. With all the stimulation and play during the day we have found that the dogs really enjoy some “me time” at the end of the day. The only exception to “cage-free” during the day would be if a dog is very young or is boarding for an extended visit. In these cases we will usually give the dog a midday nap in a crate in our quiet room. Also, on rare occasion, a dog may become overstimulated and need a short timeout to “re-boot.”

Is there someone there overnight?
Although there is not someone here during overnight boarding the dogs are generally sound asleep before we leave the building. Being crated, they are completely safe, and the building is fully alarmed for smoke and carbon monoxide.

My dog has a special diet. Can I bring his special food?
For dogs that are overnight boarding or get fed during the hours of doggie daycare we encourage all pups to bring their own food. It is easier on each dog’s system and makes them feel more comfortable.
